Visit
Visitors are persons who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and are legally authorized to enter Canada to:
- visit Canada on holiday (vacation),
- visit family,
- conduct business, etc.
Visitors are restricted in length of stay and subject to various conditions.

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)
A TRV, also referred to as a visitor visa, is an official document issued by a Canadian visa office that is placed in a person’s passport to show that they have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident (either as a visitor, a student, or a worker)
Applicants can apply for one of three categories of visitor visa;
- Single entry Visa
- Multiple Visa
- Super Visa
Applications can be done online or on paper.

If you want to extend your stay in Canada as a visitor (stay in Canada longer), you need to apply for a visitor record. A visitor record is not a visa.
Super Visa – Parents and Grandparents
A super visa allows a person to visit their children or grandchildren for up to 5 years at a time. It’s a visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. When a person enters Canada, a border services officer will confirm how long they will be allowed to stay.
There are specific requirements for a super visa:
- be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
- Financial support (proof of funds)
- have a signed letter of invitation from your child or grandchild
- have proof of private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company
