Citizenship
To become a Canadian citizen, most applicants must
- be a permanent resident;
- have lived in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years (1,095 days);
- have filed their taxes;
- pass a citizenship test;
- prove their language skills in English or French;
Permanent Resident (PR) Card (Renewal/Replacement)
A Canadian permanent resident (PR) card is confirmation that a person has been granted permanent status to live and work in Canada. You will need a valid PR card to return to Canada by plane, train, bus or boat. Learn more
Permanent Residents travelling outside Canada who do not have a valid PR card, or who are not carrying it, need to apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD) before returning to Canada. An application for a PRTD can only be done from outside Canada.
International Experience Canada
Open work permits are also available to candidates for the International Experience Canada (IEC) Candidates under the Working Holiday category. Persons 18 to 35 (18 to 30 in some countries), come work and travel in Canada through International Experience Canada (IEC)! It’s a government program designed to help individuals;

Commissioner of Oaths
SHD Lighthouse Immigration Services can provide Commissioner of Oaths services for immigration- and citizenship-related documents and statutory declarations. Ms. Dewar is a Commissioner of Oaths appointed by the Attorney General of Ontario and is authorized to administer oaths and affirmations and to witness signatures where required.
We can assist clients by witnessing and commissioning the following documents for immigration purposes:
- Residency, relationship, or travel history declarations
- Declarations related to lost or stolen passports, Permanent Resident (PR) Card or other identification
- Statutory Declarations of Common-Law Union
- Statutory Declarations for Single Status
- Custodianship Declarations
- Letters of Invitation
- Affidavits of Translation
- Identity Affidavits
- Any other immigration- and citizenship-related statutory declarations
Some documents require a Commissioner of Oaths to confirm that an oath or affirmation has been properly declared. Ms. Dewar will witness signatures and confirm that the contents of the document are declared to be true, in accordance with Ontario requirements.
Fees
- $35.00 CAD per document for the first three (3) documents
- $10.00 CAD for each additional document
- Payment accepted by cash, cheque, or electronic transfer (e-transfer)
If you require a letter or declaration to be prepared by Ms. Dewar, an hourly consultation rate of $115.00 CAD applies
